Delaware Federal Workers Receive Offer For Special State Sponsored Loans To Stay Afloat During Shutdown | The latest news from WDEL

Delaware federal government employees can now take advantage of special low-interest loans under a new program launched by the Delaware State Housing Authority.

“Federal workers in Delaware and across the country are without pay during this no-fault shutdown,” Carney said in a statement. “These workers have families who rely on their paychecks to pay their mortgages and other big bills. We must do what we can to help our neighbors as this closure continues. ”

Gov. John Carney’s office announced Thursday that the roughly 500 Delaware-based federal workers who continue to go unpaid during President Donald Trump’s shutdown of the United States government may receive a special loan to help cope mortgages, utility bills and other expenses through a partnership between the state and West End Neighborhood House, which will help workers complete applications and offer optional financial coaching services.

DSHA loans will be guaranteed through the home equity loan program. Those deemed eligible can receive the loans without a credit check for up to one month’s take-home pay. The program will offer loans with “flexible payment terms and optional financial advice[.]“They will be available to workers across the state.

“West End is once again pleased to be part of a public-private partnership that provides Delawareans with financial security,” said Paul Calistro, Executive Director of West End Neighborhood House.
