First up this week, we have the latest trailer for Nope – the new movie from horror maestro Jordan Peele (Get Out, We).

The film follows a brother and sister (Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer) who own a ranch that appears to be terrorized by an alien spacecraft.

As such, the pair decided to capture video evidence of the UFO with the help of a tech salesman (Brandon Perea, The OA) and a documentarian (Michael Wincott, The Crow).

With Get Out and Us, Peele’s directing career to date has been pretty spot on, so we hope Nope continues his winning streak when he lands in Irish cinemas on August 12th.

An upcoming entry in the DC Cinematic Universe (DCEU), Black Adam will see Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson play the titular character – a powerful anti-hero who has been imprisoned for 5,000 years.

However, after being freed from its earthly grave in modern times, it begins to wreak havoc.

Also featuring Irish actor Pierce Brosnan, the blockbuster is set to be released in Ireland on October 21.

This week we also got another look at Bullet Train – a new action-comedy from the director of Deadpool 2 and starring Brad Pitt.

The Oscar-winning actor plays a bad-luck hitman who is hired to retrieve a briefcase from a high-speed train from Tokyo to Kyoto, which ends up being harder than it looks.

After his acclaimed comedy turn Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Bullet Train looks like another fun role for Pitt – with the actor also backed by a cool cast of character actors, including Brian Tyree Henry, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon and Zazie Beetz.

You can discover the blockbuster in cinemas on August 3.

Continuing with the blockbusters, this week a new trailer was released for Prey, the latest in the Predator franchise.

Taking the action back to 1719, the film centers on a skilled warrior (Amber Midthunder, Legion) from the Comanche nation who fights to protect her tribe from one of the first highly evolved predators to land on Earth.

Seeming to be an exciting next step for the classic sci-fi action horror series, Prey is slated for a Disney+ release in Ireland on August 5th.

1899/The Midnight Club

Extracts via Netflix

As part of its “Geeked Week,” Netflix recently released a bunch of new trailers, including for its new Resident Evil series and the final episodes of Season 4 of Stranger Things.

However, the two teasers that caught JOE’s attention the most were for the streamer’s upcoming shows 1899 and The Midnight Club.

The first is from the creators of Netflix’s excellent German puzzler Dark and follows a group of European passengers on a migrating steamer in 1899 whose journey becomes a horrifying nightmare.

Meanwhile, The Midnight Club is co-created by Mike Flanagan (Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House) and centers on a group of terminally ill young adults in a hospice where bizarre happenings begin to occur.

Although 1899 does not yet have an exact release date, The Midnight Club is set to air on October 7.
