SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Red Rocks legend MyKayla Skinner has announced that she will be competing in American Ninja Warrior with her husband.
After winning a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, MyKayla Skinner will now put her gymnastics experience to the test on American Ninja Warrior.
Skinner and her husband, Jonas Harmer, made the announcement on their YouTube channel.
American Ninja Warrior Season 14 will feature couples, which is how Skinner found himself on the show. American Ninja Warrior is a TV show based on the Japanese reality show “Sasuke”. Competitors from all over the country attempt to complete a series of obstacle courses in various cities across the United States.
The difficulty of the obstacle course increases as the competitor progresses through the show. Each competitor will have to conquer the City Qualifiers, City Finals and four Mount Midoriyama stages in a single season. If they do, they’ll win $1 million.
To date, only three competitors have conquered Mount Midoriyama. The show first aired on December 12, 2009.
According to the YouTube clip above, Skinner’s husband applied to be a contestant on the show. After being given a spot on season 14, the producers called him back and wanted him and MyKayla to compete together in their couples challenge.
Right after the Olympics, Skinner was given the opportunity to appear on the show, but declined as she was retired. Now the couple have six weeks to train and prepare for the show as they begin their quest to conquer Mount Midoriyama and win $1 million.
American Ninja Warrior airs on KSL 5 TV.
