Tokyo has proof of vaccination app offering offers and discounts to users

With over 70 percent of Japan now fully vaccinated, special offers including travel discounts of Rakuten are starting to appear to encourage people to get vaccinated. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has even launched a new free app that you can use to show proof of vaccination – and get exclusive offers in the process.

Known as the Tokyo Vaction app, the smartphone application displays official proof of your vaccination against Covid-19. The app is completely optional, but if you sign up you can view your vaccination status in shops and restaurants in Tokyo for discounts and other specials. The app was launched this month and already has over 200,000 registered vaccination records.

How to sign up for the Tokyo Vaction app

To register, you must have installed the Line messaging application. Add the official Tokyo Vaction account as a friend, and after confirmation by the Tokyo Vaction account, you will be able to open the app from your chat screen. This will then lead to a login page where you can link your Line account. Once logged in, select “save your identity documents” and follow the instructions to upload photos of your identity card and vaccination record. Once your details are confirmed, you will receive a notification via Line. For now, registration on the app is done entirely in Japanese, but you can follow these detailed step-by-step instructions (in English) with the photos. here.
